November 2010!

After a very long absence, after a host of computer related hiccups, hindered by a move to a different country, the Volatis Stud blog is finally up and running again.

Now that I can access the blogspot website again, I aim to use this blog, not just for news relating directly to the stud, but also for breeding news that might be of interest.

So, a brief update of what we have been doing over the last 8 months.

The Spring of 2010 saw us decide to move to Germany for a year to work, and hence all our broodmares found temporary new homes on breeding loan to studs around the UK. Our youngstock went onto livery and we packed up and headed to the Schockemohle stallion station in Muhlen, Germany.

This has been our base ever since, working in one of the show jumping barns that specialising in producing young horses for sale and competition. Not only is it proving to be a valuable experience in terms of the day to day care and training - German style, but our base here in the heart of Oldenburg has meant many excursions to foal shows, auctions and stallion keurings around North Germany.

I shall start to update this blog with details of these events and of bloodlines that are crossing my radar, over the forthcoming weeks and months.

With regard to the Volatis horses, we have been getting reports this year of the some of the older crops starting their ridden careers, such as Volatis Callista (Festivo x Cover Girl) who is turning a lot of heads in BSJA classes, and Volatis Hurakan (Festivo x Desert Storm) who is showing exciting talent for next season's eventing competitions. Volatis Diva (Vincent II x Broadstone Dingle Dell) has completed another successful season in the show ring and is now backed and ready to make her under saddle debut in 2011. Volatis Oriana (Samaii x Catherston Orange Grove) has also been showing this summer and turning a lot of heads due to her quality and presence.

Of our retained youngstock, Volatis Valiant (Ivernel x Holme Park Venezia) will be backed next Spring and then offered for sale; Volatis Casiphia (Tycoon x Fleetwater Caprice) may come over to Germany to be graded, performance tested and put in foal (stallion choice casuing much deliberation); Volatis Elfentime (Latimer x Harmsworth Elfinesque) is currently up for sale; Volatis Elfenczar (Herzensdieb x Harmsworth Elfinesque) is also up for sale but I am also quite determined he should be retained as a stallion prospect as there is so little to fault him on at this stage, and finally Volatis Defiant (Showmaker x Dee Dee G) will hopefully come over to Germany in the Spring to be backed with a view to grading him in the autumn.

  1. Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this blog. It's
simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's challenging to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a very good job with this. In addition, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Firefox. Exceptional Blog!
